Dhaka's council-run facilities are now offering over 200 group exercise classes per week, providing residents with a wide range of fitness options to suit all interests and abilities.
With the rising awareness of the importance of physical activity for both physical and mental health, community fitness events and group exercise classes have become increasingly popular in Dhaka. The city's active wellness culture is driven by its residents' desire to lead healthy lifestyles, and council-run facilities are playing a significant role in providing accessible and affordable fitness options. As the city continues to grow and develop, it's essential that residents have access to facilities and programs that support their health and wellbeing.
In Dhaka, residents can find group exercise classes at council-run facilities such as the Dhaka Metropolitan Area's (DMA) gymnasiums in Dhanmondi, Gulshan, and Uttara. The Bangladesh Sports Education Institute (BSEI) in Mirpur also offers a range of fitness classes, including yoga, aerobics, and strength training. Additionally, the Dhaka University Gymnasium in Shahbagh provides fitness classes specifically designed for students and staff. These facilities are conveniently located near major landmarks such as the Hatirjheel Lake and the Bangladesh National Museum.
According to data from the Dhaka Metropolitan Area, over 10,000 residents participate in group exercise classes at council-run facilities every month. The most popular classes include yoga, with over 3,000 participants, and aerobics, with over 2,500 participants. The cost of attending these classes is relatively low, with most classes priced between 50 and 100 BDT per session. Some facilities also offer discounted membership packages, such as the BSEI's monthly membership package for 1,500 BDT, which includes access to all fitness classes and facilities.
As of July 2026, the DMA has announced plans to increase the number of group exercise classes available at council-run facilities by 20% over the next six months. This expansion will include new classes such as Pilates, Zumba, and kickboxing, as well as additional sessions of existing classes. Residents can stay up-to-date with the latest class schedules and prices by visiting the DMA's website or social media pages. To get started with group exercise classes at council-run facilities, residents can simply show up at their preferred facility with a valid form of identification and pay the class fee. With so many options available, there's never been a better time to get moving with your community in Dhaka.
